Frequently asked questions.
What should I expect?
Intake
Dr. Trahan will review records, obtain collateral information (e.g., family, health care providers, etc.), and perform a clinical interview.
Testing
The type of testing administered will largely depend on the referral question. However, testing may include pencil-and-paper activities, oral questions, hands-on puzzles, and computer-based questionnaires.
Feedback
Dr. Trahan will review test results, interpretations, conclusions (including diagnoses), and recommendations with you verbally before finalizing your report. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and play an active role in developing a treatment plan.
Report
Dr. Trahan generates a detailed report, including a thorough review of the patient’s history, explanation of test results, diagnoses when appropriate, treatment plans, and recommendations for resources and interventions.
How long will my appointment be?
Every evaluation will begin with a clinical interview, which typically lasts 45-60 minutes. The length and duration of testing will depend on your individual needs and the number of tests administered.
Neuropsychological evaluations are comprehensive and include both cognitive and psychological tests. As such, the neuropsychological testing portion of your evaluation can range from 3 to 5 hours. Sessions can be broken up into multiple visits, if needed, and breaks are offered throughout testing.
Psychological testing is largely computer based and takes one to three hours to complete, on average. If you receive psychological testing as part of your neuropsychological assessment, this would be included in the time frame listed above.
Feedback appointments are completed as a separate session after results are interpreted and your report is finalized. Feedback sessions typically last one hour.
How much will my evaluation cost?
The cost of your evaluation will largely depend on the type of evaluation (e.g., neuropsychological vs. psychological) as well as the number of tests administered. Dr. Trahan will discuss pricing with you prior to your appointment during your FREE 15 minute consultation. Dr. Trahan accepts the following insurance:
Aetna
Cigna
Optum
Carelon
Private pay is also an option. If you use the private pay, a superbill can be provided and you can seek reimbursement from your insurance company.
